INTERNET SAFETY TIPS
1. Don’t share any personal information online (address, email address or mobile number must stay private)
2. Think very carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself, family or friends.
3. Make sure your privacy settings are 100% secure.
4. Keep your passwords a secret.
5. Don’t befriend strangers on the internet
6. Refuse any suggestions to meet up with people met online.
7. Everyone online is not who they say they are.
8. Think about what you’re posting online before you post it
9. Respect other people online – their views and opinions matter too

SCREEN TIME: ADVICE FOR PARENTS (from Webwise.ie)
1. Agree on a clear set of rules with your child on screen time in the home.
2. Do as you say.
3. Restrict the use of computers/devices in the bedroom.
4. Buy an alarm clock for your child’s bedroom and charge their phones in your room at night time.
5. Pick one evening a week where you do a family activity together, whether it’s movie night, games night.
6. Join in, why not set some time aside to play your child’s favourite computer game and discover the online world together.
7. Try not to rely on screens too much to keep the kids amused.
8. Don’t have screens always on in the background.
9. Chat with your child about what they do online and encourage them to use their screen time for learning and education.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD I ALLOW MY CHILD TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA?
-The best online safety strategy, regardless of the age of the user or the technology involved, is to talk with your children and to engage with their use of the Internet.
-Age restrictions vary across social media platforms; usually users should be no younger than 16 years old (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)
-The introduction of the GDPR and the adopting of 16 as the Digital Age of Consent in Ireland came into effect on May 25th, 2018.
