This year World Book Day will be celebrated around the world on the 2nd of March, 2017. We will be joining in the celebrations here at Castledockrell N.S. to reward the children for all the hard work they have done over the year with their reading and to encourage them to continue with this hard work. The day will be marked with lots of fun activities, including dressing up, quizzes, buddy reading and art activities.

Today Brendan and Alan from Enniscorthy Fire Station visited the school, to talk to us about the importance of fire safety at home and the importance of having a plan if a fire did break out. Each child got a pack to bring home with more details on how to prevent fires and how to develop a plan for their house, with a little homework for Mammy and Daddy!
The children took part in the Operation Transformation initiative 10@10 this morning. This is an initiative where all children in primary schools are doing 10 minutes of activity at the same time. A great way to start the day!
We would lie to introduce the newest member of the team at Castledockrell N.S., its "Fit Freddy". Freddy will be going home with a different family every week to join in with any physical activity that the family are doing, for example, going for a walk, playing football, a bicycle ride, yoga, the list is endless, swimming might be the only activity that would not be advisable! We will be posting photos of Freddy with each family, so check the website to keep track of Freddy's activities.
Well done to Ava Byrne, 3rd class who was a winner in the Kilcannon Garden Centre, Christmas Colouring Competition. Ava is photographed with her prize, who she has appropriately named, Jingles.
Thanks to everybody who came along to our open evening, last night, the 7th of February. We were delighted to meet the children who will be starting school with us in September. Everybody had a chance to have a look around the school, to try the toys, to see the facilities available and to meet with other parents. For any information regarding enrolment or for enrolment forms, please contact the school.
This week Zumba Dance has started in the school. Children enjoyed a great afternoon singing and dancing, while getting great exercise. This has been introduced as part of Active School Plan and will continue for the next six weeks. As you can see from the pictures, the children are really enjoying it. |
