The Junior Room welcomed the new junior infants 2014/2015 to the school today with a teddy bear's picnic. Great fun was had by all....teddy bears and children! Yesterday was an important day of the school calendar as we had our end of year mass. It was also a very important day for the 6th class pupils who were celebrating their graduation from Castledockrell NS. The children read, brought up gifts, sang and played music during the ceremony. A special thank you must go to Fr. Danny for all his help during the year and to Helena and Mrs. McCabe for helping us with our music.
It was a proud day for the school community of Castledockrell N.S. as their Fifth Green Flag was raised on Thursday, June 19th. We received this flag for Biodiversity in our school, whilst maintaining all our earlier work in the areas of recycling, energy, water awareness and transport also.
The school community had a great celebration day with the help of a birds of prey display from Colin Travers and facepainting. This was followed by presentations by the children of the work they had undertaken over the past two years, before raising their Fifth Green Flag in glorious sunshine in front of the school. They had composed poems and a rap especially for the occasion. Refreshments were enjoyed by all and the children played their tin whistles and flutes throughout to complement the ceremony. Huge thanks to all the school staff for coordinating the above activities, and the Board of Management and Parents Association for all their support. Thanks to Cliona Connolly in Wexford County Council for her support throughout the process. The biggest thank you must go to the children, without whom this project would never have come to fruition, a particular thank you to the Greenschool’s Committee. Many action plans were put in place to attain this flag:- The school began the process by raising awareness of biodiversity in our school and in our homes. Posters and art work was completed and displayed throughout the school. A biodiversity study was completed in the school and maps were drawn in accordance with this. A bio-divesity workshop took place when a Bee-Keeper visited the school and help to establish a solitary bee box and informed the children of the importance of encouraging bees into our garden. Following this a sunflower and wild flower garden was planted. Window boxes adorn the windows of the school, in the sunshine. A bird box was erected in the school grounds also. As part of the action plan, the school also visited the Altamount Gardens to celebrate biodiversity on National Tree day. We now look forward to beginning work on our sixth green flag. The end of year mass will take place this Wednesday, 25th of June, at 11am in the Church of All Saints, Castledockrell. All are invited to attend.
The Castledockrell NS Sports Day took place on Friday the 13th of June. The weather was beautiful and we made sure to wear lots of suncream! There was lots of exciting and fun things to do including individual and team races, parachutes, orienteering, tug of war and pass the hoop. Everyone had a great day and the children got an extra treat of some sweets and ice cream at the end of the day. Check out the pictures below!
The children finished off the day with a swim in the Courtown Leisure Centre where we got to go on the water slide before returning back to Castledockrell.
The Junior Room had a fantastic trip to Kia Ora Mini-Farm. Here we got to do lots of fun things including holding and feeding the animals. We saw llamas, horses, emus, alpacas, owl, rabbits, puppies, hens, pigs and even reindeers! The children went on the mini-diggers and had a trip in a fire engine! We made castles in the sand pits too. We were even given a treat of ice-cream cones before we went home! Everyone had a great day. Take a look at some of our pictures! |
