4th May 2020
Dear Parents, We hope that you and your families all continue to be safe and well, and that you had an enjoyable May bank holiday weekend. The announcement made by an Taoiseach on Friday evening provided us all with clarity for the road ahead; and unfortunately schools will not reopen until the new school year in September. When we closed our doors on the 12th of March little did we know that they would remain closed for so long. I’m sure that you and the children are disappointed to hear this, as are we the staff, but we know that the decision is for the greater good and made in line with public safety advice. We must all continue to play our part and stay at home. In particular I’m certain our 6th class pupils are saddened by this news; their final few weeks and months in primary school have cruelly been taken from them. That being said we will not let them move on to the next chapter, secondary school, without giving them a suitable send off and graduation. They have been part of the Castledockrell National School family for the past 8 years and this rite of passage and chance to say goodbye is hugely important. I know also that our First Holy Communion children are disappointed, but they too will have their day. Please find attached work for the week ahead (Tuesday-Friday). The SeeSaw app will be updated daily also. As we look towards a further 8 weeks of home learning we plan to activate home learning codes on SeeSaw so that the children can submit/upload their work directly to the app and communicate directly with their teachers; we feel that this will enhance their learning during the final few weeks of school. I know that you the parents may also feel disheartened with the prospect of a further 8 weeks, but I thank you again for your great efforts to date and urge you to continue these efforts; you will see the fruits of your labour and the benefits for your child. Again we stress do whatever you can do; every family and home circumstance is different. Thank you to all who filled in our survey; we greatly appreciate your feedback and kind words. Anyone who has yet to fill in the survey please do so at your earliest convenience. The teachers reviewed a new ‘Admissions Policy’ at our recent virtual staff meeting; this is available on the school website. Please continue to stay at home and stay safe. Yours sincerely, Deirdre Ryan On behalf of the staff and Board of Management of Castledockrell National School. |
