Dear Parents,
We hope that everyone is keeping safe and well.
This week is “Active Week” in Castledockrell National School. We are very proud of our Active Flag status and Active Week is always a highlight in our school calendar. This year will be a little bit different as we all do the activities from home, but I’m sure if we all get in the spirit of it, it will be just as much fun!
Please find attached an overview for the week. Everyday has a different theme or P.E. strand- Monday is Athletics, Tuesday is Games, Wednesday is Outdoor and Adventure, Thursday is Dance and Friday is our Virtual Sports Day! The overview contains a list of suggested activities for each day but this can be treated as a menu, and children are encouraged to come up with their own activities also. Everyday includes a “Wake Up Shake Up” dance and a “Daily Drill” list of exercises; these are a great way to start your day and the children should be familiar with the dances from previous years. Teachers will upload links and instruction templates on SeeSaw everyday explaining some of the tasks in more detail.
To encourage the children to partake in as much activity as possible over the week we have come up with an award system. We are asking parents to send in photographs and/or videos of the children carrying out the activities everyday via school email/what’s app/messenger. If a child sends in 1 photograph/video they will receive a Bronze Sports Day certificate, if they upload between 2 and 5 photographs/videos they will receive a Silver Sports Day certificate and if they upload 6 or more during the week they will receive a Gold Sports Day certificate. We will present their certificates at the book collection next Saturday and there will be an overall prize for the most creative photograph/video.
School reports, booklists and information about the school calendar have been posted and should arrive with you tomorrow. The book collection will take place next Saturday, the 20th of June outside the school between 12.30 and 1.30 (you and your child/children can drop by at any stage during the hour), and the 6th class are invited to come at 2pm. The End of Year Mass/Graduation Ceremony will be on Monday, 22nd of June at 10am.
We hope that you all have an enjoyable and safe Active Week, and we look forward to seeing you next Saturday.
Yours sincerely,
Deirdre Ryan
